Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at South Texas Health System Behavioral
Not everyone requiring mental health services needs an inpatient setting. South Texas Health System Behavioral offers a specialty level of care to adolescents (13-17) and adults (18+) who experience ongoing symptoms of depression, anxiety or other emotional problems that affect their relationships and day-to-day activities through the facility’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
The program is a time limited, individualized treatment program for candidates who need more intensive behavioral health treatment than is normally available through an outpatient psychiatric clinic but do not need inpatient hospitalization. The goal of the program is to promote quality patient mental health in the least restrictive and most efficacious manner possible.
Individualized care plans allow for a collaborative treatment method designed to help you achieve positive results.
Participating in the IOP program gives you the flexibility to maintain your household responsibilities while going through the phases of treatment. Intensive outpatient services give you the flexibility to maintain a work or school schedule that allows you to receive treatment while continuing with your responsibilities.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program includes group therapy sessions
Group topics may include:
- Coping with Depression and Anxiety
- Stress and Anger Management
- Communication Skills
- Socialization Skills
- Relaxation Skills
Additional treatment tools and techniques offered through the program include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), play therapy, creative arts therapy, coping skills training and horticulture therapy.
Placement is determined through an assessment, which helps reveal the individual needs of each patient.
